An archivist for the BC Archives since 2002, Frederike Verspoor previously worked at the BC Legislative Library and at the Royal BC Museum Library where her master’s degrees in history and in library science were augmented by developing expertise in a wide range of subjects and disciplines.

Frederike has a particular interest in BC, Canadian and British government documents and records, including court records (current and historical), statutes and case law.

She has written a number of guides to BC political history, an electoral history, reference guides on a variety of topics (First Nations research, divorce records, vital event records, genealogy, colonial government records, etc.) and historical articles. She has delivered public presentations on the 1858 Douglas Commission, Emily Carr, the history of divorce in BC and doing First Nations research at the BC Archives.

Currently, she is involved in the new genealogy database, research inquiries and assisting with This Week in History, a local TV series highlighting events that helped shape British Columbia.
